2014Sony NEX-5 and M42 lenses
Sony NEX-5, 16mm f2.8
Andy lended me Sony Nex-5 with two lenses (16mm and 18-55mm) and NEX to M42 adapter. I’m impressed by the quality of photos Sony NEX produces and how easy is to use this small camera. It’s ideal for trips, travels, family parties, vacations, … I’m not sure if I like the hole idea of changing lenses, because you are once again stuck with carrying multiple lenses in bag and of course buying them. On the other hand it gives you more diversity. With NEX to M42 adapter I can use lenses that I love. I have two 50mm M42 lenses (Helios and Takumar). So I did some testing. With the adapter and small 50mm M42 lens camera looks huge and lens with adapter is bigger than the camera which looks strange. But using M42 lenses with NEX is pure joy. It is much easier to focus than with the viewfinder on DSLR. I’m not a fan using Liveview on my Canon 5D mark II so I focus with a help of electronic adapter but it is not as acurate as it should be. NEX has a system which shows yellow dots on a screen pointing where focus is correct. I used also close up function for 100% focus. I was impressed by the results.

I have a similar experience with Fuji XM1. Quality of the photos taken with M42 lenses is wonderful. The only complaint I have is focus peeking on Fuji. It shows as small white dots on screen.
How are you pleased with Viamare kayak? I found out that I shouldn’t deflate it fully because the material can’t handle it very well.
